✍️ Although Polpala’s homeland is Africa, the plant grows abundantly throughout Asia and Australia. Also known as Polkudu Pala in Sinhala, Polpala is a small perennial shrub that grows up to 2 feet tall and contains a fine white sap throughout the plant. Its alternately arranged leaves vary in shape, ranging from spherical to lanceolate, elliptical, or ovate. The inflorescence, which appears near each leaf stalk, is a spike. Polpala is widely used in various herbal preparations, including porridge, and both the leaves and the entire plant are highly valued in traditional medicine. It belongs to the Amaranthaceae family.
