✅ The definition of a vein knot:
Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted, and swollen veins that usually appear in the legs. The human body has two types of blood vessels: arteries and veins. This condition is caused by veins in which the valves that help move blood are functioning improperly. Due to the weakness of these valves, blood gathers and pools in the veins, causing the appearance of dark, blue veins. This condition is referred to as Varicose (vein tying) in Ayurveda.
🔴 There are two types of varicose veins that can be identified,
- Constriction of Veins on the Sole Surface of the Feet.
- Constriction of Veins in the Thigh (Femur).
🔴 How do varicose veins occur?
Knotted veins occur when the small valves inside the veins stop functioning properly. Healthy veins have valves that open and close to move blood towards the heart in a gentle, one-way flow. When these valves become damaged or weakened, blood can flow backward, causing the veins to become swollen, enlarged, and overloaded.
🔴 How to identify varicose veins externally?
- Swollen veins.
- Bulging veins.
- Venous nodules.
- Pain or itching.
- Being black, blue or purple in color.
- Heaviness in the legs.
- Muscle spasms on legs.
- Numbness of the feet.
- Wound.
🔴 Causes of varicose veins
- Standing for a long period of time.
- Increase of body weight.
- Constipation.
- Abdominal pressure due to conditions such as a cough.
- Weakening of veins due to age.
- Hormonal changes.
- A lack of proper exercise.
🔴 A unique reason for the prevalence of varicose veins among women.
Ø Women experience hormonal changes at various stages of life. These fluctuations occur during the menstrual cycle and are heightened during pregnancy. The progesterone hormone plays a key role in these changes.
Ø As a result, blood vessels dilate. Prolonged dilation causes venous valves to weaken. This condition occurs when the valves become weak, preventing proper blood circulation.
🔴 Complications:
- Blood clots: Swollen veins can sometimes lead to the formation of clots.
- Ulcers: Chronic varicose veins can lead to painful skin ulcers near the affected areas.
- Bleeding: In some cases, minor bleeding may occur when veins close to the skin burst.
🔴 Ayurvedic perspective:
- In Ayurveda, varicose veins are associated with an imbalance of the Vata and Pitta doshas. This imbalance disrupts blood flow, weakening the structural integrity of the veins.
- Vata Dosha controls movement and blood flow. Imbalance can lead to irregular circulation.
- The Pitta dosha controls body heat, metabolism, and blood flow. When imbalanced, it can cause inflammation and swelling of the veins.
